Kagoshima
Sakurajima volcano, Ibusuki sand baths and Yakushima forests
Kagoshima City is a natural starting point for views of Sakurajima across the bay. South on the Satsuma Peninsula, Ibusuki is known for hot sand baths, while Yakushima offers a separate island journey into ancient forests. Give each destination its own travel plan and check ferry or flight services, weather and volcanic advisories where relevant.
